A quick rundown on why Fernando Vargas is my betting favorite over Ricardo Mayorga.
Boxing skils - Fernando Vargas knows how to box and actually went through an amateur program and the olympics. Mayorga is just a brawler. +1 Vargas

Size - Vargas is definitely bigger than Mayorga. The fight is also at a size that figures Mayorga to be MUCH smaller. +1 Vargas

Physical preparation and age - I think both fighters are shot. Vargas hasn't looked impressive but at least stayed competitive against Shane Mosley for their 1st fight. Mayorga just hasn't been impressive at all since knocking out Vernon Forrest and battling with a rusty Felix Trinidad. When comparing Vargas VS Mosley fight and the Mayorga VS De La Hoya fight, it's pretty clear that Mayorga is far inferior fighter. +1 Vargas

Style - Mayorga loops his punches. I think some of his wins were simply from intimidation and Vargas is just too big to be scared. Vargas throws straighter and will be able to take any shots that Mayorga throws. +1 Vargas

Heart - Mayorga quit easily against De La Hoya and Trinidad. He's been humbled before and he will sit down again. Vargas will forever be struggling to beat the count and showing that he can continue.

Endurance - Mayorga doesn't pace for a 12-rounder. If this fight goes the distance, Mayorga's punches will lose more steam and appear to be smaller and smaller in terms of physical impression. +1

This fight is a no-brainer. Vargas is taking an easy fight on his way out of boxing and Mayorga's handlers are just cashing him out. He's a tough gangster but definitely one that's too small in this fight. Vargas's only disadvantage is that he is shot but I think Mayorga is just as shot at this point in his career. This fight has all the makings of a knockout but I think Vargas will be too strong and Mayorga will actually run for once in his life and drag it out to a full 12 rounds. I also see Vargas coming on late and doing just enough to knockout the wild Mayorga.

Verdict - Vargas by late round knockout.
